Frequently Asked Questions

How does therapy work?

Together we will assess and prioritize your current mental health issues and goals. We will then collaborate on a specific treatment plan that works for you. In order to maintain communication and meet your benchmarks goals effectively, sessions are typically a week or bi-weekly.

I’m worried I’ll feel judged.

Therapy is a safe space to explore your emotions. I promise to treat you with kindness and compassion in a nonjudgmental environment where you can heal.

I am afraid to become vulnerable.

I understand that vulnerability can be strange and scary, and in fact, fear of being vulnerable is one of the lingering effects of unprocessed trauma. I will help support you while we change the behaviors that no longer serve you.

I’m too overwhelmed to go to therapy.

Fortunately, therapy moves at your pace and honors your specific goals. I will make sure you feel comfortable throughout the process and champion your vulnerability so that you can make meaningful progress in counseling.

How do you protect patient privacy during online sessions?

I use a secure & HIPAA compliant platform called Regroup to provide all online counseling sessions. Prior to your appointment, I will send you a link with a password to join in on the session. All you need is a computer with a camera and microphone so we can connect. It’s that simple.

Why don’t you take any insurance?

For many years I did accept insurance. Unfortunately, as a small business, our managed care system became more and more difficult to work with. Insurance companies often look to cut costs and pass that along to small business by cutting rates, non payment of services, requesting records, ongoing justification of client care and limiting the time I could see my clients. In order to provide the best quality of care, I made the decision to transition to private pay insurance.

Do you offer payment on a sliding scale?

I no longer offer a sliding scale.

As we work together to accomplish your goals, I will always create a safe place for you to learn new skills, gain insight, and find meaning or purpose in everyday life. – Erin Rice
